You do not have to be a member to utilize the free resources available on their website (https://www.americanancestors.org/). However, many, many more high quality resources are at your fingertips should you choose to join. Check out their Facebook page prior to joining to see if they have a discount code available. We recently saved $25 on the cost of a membership with a discount code from Facebook. By the way, you can save $$$ (10% as of April 24, 2023) on the cost of genealogy courses through Boston University with your membership.

We simply love this virtual cemetery (https://www.findagrave.com/) As a contributor, you can add memorials, upload photos, suggest edits, and more. The website depends upon contributors like you and us to stay up-to-date. What that means is that not all of the information found on Find a Grave is accurate or complete. For some contributors, it is quantity (of memorials created or managed) over quality (of what they put online), turning it into some sort of competition. Others make up their own 'rules' for handling suggested edits and memorial transfers. Thankfully, the folks at Find a Grave seem more likely to intervene in disputes than they used to be.
